In Pohang, the ‘City of Fire and Light,’ the representative cultural tourism festival, the ‘Pohang International Fireworks Festival,’ is held every year. The Pohang International Fireworks Festival began in 2004 with a fireworks show held to commemorate Pohang Citizens’ Day, themed around the images of ‘light,’ symbolizing Pohang as a world-class steel city, and ‘fire,’ symbolizing a hot blast furnace. Since then, it has expanded into an international-scale festival, with famous overseas fireworks teams participating every year. Moving away from a simple focus on ‘fireworks,’ the festival content is a celebration of harmony that unfolds colorfully by fusing industrial and cultural elements, such as production performances and light parades.
