Details
The following list of festival food items is from the previous year (2025), and the 2026 festival details are currently being updated.
The foundation of the Eumseong Pumba Festival is the life of the late Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong, the "Beggar Saint." He is the very person who, despite his own disability, went around the neighborhoods in the Mugeuk-ri area of Geumwang-eup collecting food to feed beggars who were unable to even beg. For this reason, his life is regarded as that of a saint of love that no one can imitate. Legends regarding Pumba have been passed down in various forms. It is said that Pumba is an onomatopoeia that serves as a kind of rhythmic melody used in the refrain of the Gakseori Taryeong. The Eumseong Pumba Festival combines Pumba, which has traditionally solidified as the epitome of itinerant merchants, with the philanthropic spirit of Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong. Although our lives in the modern era have become more affluent, spiritual poverty and inequality still persist. The festival was born from the premise that such a society must be healed through love and sharing, and that we should experience catharsis through satire and humor. Furthermore, the Eumseong Pumba Festival is a spiritual and cultural festival that practices love and sharing.
