Details
The Hansan Ramie Culture Festival is Korea's only traditional textile festival, held to widely promote the value and excellence of Hansan ramie weaving—designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—and to preserve and pass on traditional culture. Beginning with the 1st Jeosan Culture Festival in 1989, this year marks the 36th edition, and the festival is held annually during the second week of June in the area surrounding the Hansan Ramie Museum in Hansan-myeon, Seocheon-gun. Representative programs include a ramie clothing fashion show where visitors can appreciate the beauty of Hansan ramie, and the Jeosan Pal-eup Gilssam Nori, a folk game related to weaving. In addition, visitors can experience a variety of ramie culture through activities such as the Hansan Ramie School, mini-loom weaving, and ramie clothing try-on experiences.
