Details
The Yeongam Wangin Cultural Festival, which began in 1997, is a representative cultural and tourism festival of South Korea boasting a 29-year history. It is held every spring against the backdrop of the Dr. Wangin Historic Site. At the pinnacle of ancient East Asian cultural exchange stood Dr. Wangin. Through Wangin, Baekje's advanced civilization and Confucian classics crossed the Korea Strait to reach the Japanese archipelago; the teachings he imparted transcended mere knowledge, becoming the fundamental driving force that gave birth to the "Asuka Culture," the golden age of ancient Japanese culture. Wangin's unwavering scholarship, the gracefully flowing Yeongsan River, and Sangdaepo symbolize the waves of exchange that spread culture across the sea. Here, we reaffirm that the roots of Asuka Culture lie in Yeongam.
