Details
The 96th Chunhyang Festival, boasting the deepest history and tradition in South Korea, will brighten Namwon's spring this April.
The Chunhyang Festival is a traditional cultural festival that began spontaneously in 1931 during the Japanese colonial period, when the citizens of Namwon came together to instill national pride and honor the noble spirit of Seong Chunhyang. It is the pioneer of performing arts festivals in South Korea and, over the course of 96 years, remains one of the nation's oldest historical assets.
The festival began as a ritual commemorating Dano, the day when Chunhyang and Yi Mongryong first met. It has since evolved into a global cultural platform, accessible to people from all over the world. This year's festival is particularly notable for its fusion of the tranquil scenery of Gwanghalluwon Garden and modern lighting displays. During the day, it presents the dynamic and exciting excitement of traditional performances, while at night, it offers a romantic, starlit ambiance, leaving visitors with an unforgettable experience.
The 96th Chunhyang Festival, held in a space imbued with the most authentic Korean sentiment, is a place of harmony where tradition, modernity, and the world unite.
